No decesion has been taken yet on the delivery of S-300 air defense systems to Iran, Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov said on Friday. Russia signed a contract on delivering at least five S-300 systems to Iran in December 2005, but the contract’s implementation has so far been delayed.
On June 9, the UN Security Council approved a fourth round of sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program, including tougher financial controls and an expanded arms embargo.
Later, the United States and the EU imposed extra sanctions against the Islamic republic. The sale of S-300 air defense systems is believed to fall under the sanctions, though Russia said the delivery would not be affected since the weapons are not included in the UN Register of Conventional Arms.
The head of the Russian State Technology Corporation Rostekhnologii, Sergei Chemezov, said in July that the contract had not been cancelled.

Salehi: August 21, a day to remember

Bushehr, Aug 21, (IRNA) – Vice President Ali Akbar Salehi said August 21 was a day to remember in the fluctuating history of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. He made the remark while talking to reporters at the sidelines of the ceremony to mark the start of the fuel injection operations in Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in southern Iran.
He said Iran appreciated the efforts of Russian government and nation as well as the chief of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom), Sergei Kiriyenko.
He said by cooperating with Iran, Russia has managed to make an enduring name in Iran. He said that Russia certainly helped Iran in entering the sphere of nuclear technology activities.
Salehi, who also heads Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization described as a big event of festivity for Iranian nation the start of fuel injection operations in the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant.

Iran Vows to Defend Worldwide Muslims

TEHRAN (FNA)- Head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) Mehdi Mostafavi underlined Iran’s resolve to defend all the world Muslims against enemy plots .and aggressions

"We assume defending the Islamic Ummah as our responsibility in every part of the world, in Palestine, Afghanistan or any other Muslim country," Mostafavi said, addressing a group of Muslim countries’ ambassadors to Tehran on Tuesday.   "The cruel massacre of Muslims in Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine upsets us as much as the devastating floods in Pakistan have saddened us all,," he added.   Mostafavi also reiterated that creating unity and integrity among Muslim countries is one of the main goals pursued by Iran.   He expressed the hope that the Islamic Ummah would make progress and attains achievements in all the different scientific, cultural, social and economic fields.   "The Islamic civilization and Ummah is entitled to the right to stand at the peak of progress," Mostafavi stressed.
