Iran among 1st states to aid quake-hit Turkiye: Turkish consul general

Tabriz, IRNA – Turkish Consul General Çetin Taner to the Iranian city Tabriz, East Azarbaijan Province, said that the Iranian government was among the first states who rushed to aid quake-hit people in Turkiye.

Taner made the remarks in a meeting with Abedin Khorram, East Azarbaijan province governor general, in Tabriz on Monday night, appreciating the Islamic Republic for sending humanitarian aids to his earthquake-stricken country.

The Turkish diplomat noted that the Iranian government has stood by Turkiye just like all other hard times, and that some rescue groups from the Red Crescent Society of Tehran and Tabriz were dispatched to quake-hit areas in Turkiye.

He went on to say that unfortunately more than 13 million people have been affected by the disaster, and over 30,000 people lost their lives.

Khorram, for his part, expressed sympathy and condolences to the Turkish people and government for the deaths of thousands of people in southern Turkiye.

The Iranian governor general, accompanied by some other officials, paid a visit to Turkiye’s consulate in Tabriz, expressing readiness of the province’s pharmaceutical companies to supply medicine and medical equipment to the quake-hit areas.

Some media outlets have reported that more than 36000 people have been killed and tens of thousands injured after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck southern Turkiye and northern Syria last Monday.
