‘Timely action by Iranian officials prevented misinterpretation on Azeri Embassy attack’
Tehran, IRNA – Member of Iran-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group Mohammad Reza Mirtajoddini said on Saturday that accurate and timely information dissemination by the authorities prevented misinterpretation by enemies on the Azeri Embassy attack.
Mirtajoddini was speaking to reporters a day after a gunman shot dead a security chief and injured two more people at the Azerbaijan diplomatic mission in the capital Tehran.
The official stressed that the incident should not cause rifts and political problems between Tehran and Baku, as “some countries and elements are seeking to distort the reality” and “escalate some disputes in the region.”
He said that the Islamic Republic of Iran has condemned the attack and considers it against diplomatic and neighborly principles. “As it was explained before, personal motives was behind the incident”, he added.
Mirtajoddini also said that Iran maintains friendly relations with its neighbors, including Azerbaijan, based on mutual respect and interests, adding that the two countries should be vigilant and stand against any move aimed at causing disputes.
