Iran’s ICRO slams Azerbaijan embassy attack, warns of mischievous plots
Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) has denounced an attack on Azerbaijan’s embassy in Iran while warning that the incident could be used by enemies to undermine bilateral ties.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the ICRO offered its sympathy to the government of Azerbaijan over the attack that took place a day earlier, saying the death of one staff member at the diplomatic mission of “a neighbor Muslim country caused sorrow and grief”.
However, the ICRO, which coordinates Iran’s cultural ties with other countries with a focus on Muslim nations, warned that the attack on Azerbaijani embassy in Iran could be used as part of a mischievous plot to damage relations between the two countries.
“Although based on existing evidences the attack was carried out with personal motives, there is no doubt that fake news outlets and adversarial security and propaganda apparatuses are planning to use this issue as a pretext to destroy relations and interactions between the two countries,” read the statement.
The attack on January 27 on Azerbaijan’s embassy in the Iranian capital Tehran killed one staff member and injured two others.
An initial investigation has indicated that the assailant carried out the attack out of personal motives.
