Top Iranian generals say U.S. losing power, influence

Two top Iranian generals said on Sunday the United States is losing its former political power, status and influence in the world as is evident in recent developments in the region and West Asia.

Chief Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Hossein Salami and Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, a top military adviser to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali ‎Khamenei, hinted at U.S. declining power in separate remarks at two different ceremonies while addressing IRGC commanders, directors and forces.

Major General Salami said all U.S. state-building efforts and plots in regional states are ending in failure in a domino fashion as can be seen in its escape from Afghanistan and defeats in Syria and Egypt.

He added it is a fact that the enemy is retreating from the front lines it had drawn, stressing that these are all the signs heralding a major event, which is the U.S. failure.

The commander said the enemy sought to keep the world under oppression, noting that it wanted to keep people ignorant through highlighting the material aspects of life.

However, he added, the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, ripped apart the Western veil of ignorance and gave rise to the movement of science and awareness, which has managed to turn the situation in favor of Islam despite having faced difficulties, sanctions, and the foe’s psychological operations and political pressures.

Major General Salami said the Islamic Republic’s enemies are currently incapable of assisting one another, noting that the elements and factors that used to link them with each other no longer exist.

He cited the relationship between Saudi Arabia and the United States as proof, saying Riyadh, which used to help Washington through spending money, is now unable to resolve even its own economic problems.

Commenting on the U.S. president’s recent West Asia visit, the IRGC chief said Joe Biden returned home without any achievements.

Major General Salami added, at present, the enemies’ will has weakened and they are desperate.

He said the U.S. “maximum pressure” and sanctions against the Islamic Republic has been defeated, emphasizing that although Iran is in an enemy-imposed economic war, it does not look like a defeated country, which is a sign of victory.

Power shifting toward East

IRNA

Addressing a gathering of the IRGC commanders and soldiers, Major General Rahim Safavi said U.S. bids over the past thirty years ‎to become the sole hegemonic power in the world were all doomed to failure, ISNA wrote.

He added that proof to the failed U.S. policies in the region is its escape from Afghanistan and looming pullout from Iraq and Syria. ‎

Recalling the military operations by the United States and its allies in 1991 to expel the ‎occupying forces of the former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein from Kuwait, Major General Rahim Safavi said since then, they have spent ‎trillions of dollars and suffered over 30,000 military casualties in the region.

He said the costs and casualties they have suffered during their presence in the region enabled China and Russia to increase their power ‎in the face of the United States. ‎

Major General Rahim Safavi added that the U.S. escape from Afghanistan and its passive reaction to Russia’s military ‎operation in Ukraine are further proof of Washington’s waning power and influence.

The top general gave the assurance the global power is gradually shifting from the West toward the East based on achievements in the fields of the economy, culture and modern technologies.
