VP: Iran-Qatar cooperation in 2022 World Cup to open new chapter in relations
The 2022 FIFA World Cup is a favorable opportunity for Tehran and Doha to develop and deepen their ties and open a new chapter in their bilateral relations, said Iran’s first vice president.
In an address to a Saturday meeting to discuss issues pertaining to the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Mohammad Mokhber added that Tehran and Doha have held talks on their joint cooperation in holding the event, IRNA reported.
He highlighted the necessity of drawing up a comprehensive plan for the two sides’ cooperation during the World Cup, noting that the formation of a joint World Cup committee can be an important and effective step to the two sides’ cooperation in this regard.
Mokhber said Iran’s cooperation with Qatar in the holding of the World Cup can be a turning point in presenting the country’s tourist attractions and capacities to the rest of the world.
In a late February visit by Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi to Qatar, Tehran and Doha signed 14 major economic cooperation agreements, including a deal on canceling visa requirements for passengers traveling between the two countries as the Arab state prepares to host the 2022 World Cup.
The World Cup is scheduled to be held in Qatar from Nov. 21 to Dec. 18, 2022
