Security forces disband terrorist team in northwest Iran

Two members of the terrorist team have been killed and a number of others arrested during armed clashes with the security forces.

They had plans to carry out acts of terror against provincial military forces, extort money from the wealthy people to hand it over to counterrevolutionary groups and threaten and beat some local residents and prominent figures in the province, Press TV wrote.

A large cache of weapons and ammunition were also confiscated from the band.

Iran’s Intelligence Ministry announced in a statement on Wednesday that the country’s security forces identified and disbanded a terrorist cell affiliated to the foreign spy agencies.

It added that the security and intelligence forces dismantled the terrorist team in an operation while it was attempting to carry out acts of sabotage and terrorist attacks against Iran’s vital and sensitive centers.

Late in July, Iranian security forces disbanded a Takfiri terrorist group that sought to carry out simultaneous terrorist attacks in several provinces in cooperation with intelligence services of two European and regional countries.

Earlier on Sunday, the chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces said the country will continue its military strikes against terrorist groups, stationed in northern Iraq, that have been in progress over the past two weeks.

Speaking to reporters, Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri blamed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s insufficient attention and the Iraqi administration’s weaknesses, caused by the American forces’ presence, for the activities of the armed anti-Iranian groups in northern Iraq, Tasnim News Agency reported.

He made the remarks while commenting on Iran’s September 9 drone and artillery attacks against terrorists’ strongholds in northern Iraq which was made by Ground Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

The top commander added that the KRG and the officials in Baghdad have already been advised about the terrorist groups’ presence and the need to terminate them and prevent their activities.

He regretted however, that the warnings, recommendations and requests “have gone unheeded for years.”

“It is the Iranian nation’s legal and logical right to enjoy secure and calm borders,” the general added.
