Rouhani: Iran keen on cooperation with South Africa against COVID-19‎

He made the remarks on Tuesday in a message to his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa to congratulate the African country on its Freedom Day, Tasnim News Agency reported.

“The contemporary world is facing multiple crises in the political, economic and social areas, and the coronavirus has added to these problems.”

He also expressed hope that cooperation between Iran and South Africa would help them tackle the pandemic and that their bilateral relations would grow in all fields of mutual interest.

Annually celebrated in South Africa as a public holiday on April 27, the Freedom Day commemorates the first post-apartheid elections held in the country in 1994. The polls were the first nonracial national elections in the country.

On Monday, Rouhani also expressed hope for the expansion of relations with Tanzania in all fields.

The remark was made in the president’s congratulatory message to his Tanzanian counterpart Samia Suluhu Hassan on the occasion of the East African country’s Union Day, which marks the unification of Tanganyika and the People’s Republic of Zanzibar in 1964.
