Official: Government fulfilled all pledges before economic war

The government managed to fulfill all its pledges to the people prior to a full-fledged economic war imposed by the enemy on the country, said the chief of staff of the Iranian president.
In an address to reporters on the sidelines of the last cabinet meeting in the current Iranian calendar year (which will end on March 20), Mahmoud Vaezi added to assess the extent to which Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has managed to honor his promises, one must first take into consideration the time when the pledges have been made, IRNA reported.
He noted that prior to the imposition of the economic war and US unilateral sanctions on the country, the Iranian government managed to reduce annual inflation to below 10 percent and stimulate positive economic growth.
In addition, the Rouhani administration launched major projects in the country and reduced foreign currency prices in the domestic market before the reinstatement of the sanctions, Vaezi said.
“A mad president came into power in the US who caused a chaos in the entire world and, provoked by and at the command of Israel, launched a ‘maximum pressure’ campaign against Iran. They sought to cause the Iranian establishment to collapse and put the people at loggerheads with the government. They used all means at their disposal and prevented Iran from selling its oil and transferring money to and from the country. They waged a psychological warfare against the Islamic Republic every day.”
He noted that this comes as the Iranian government and all domestic sectors hand in hand with each other managed to run the country and disappoint the enemy and the US amid such very tough circumstances, particularly during the current calendar year and despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
Over the past month, American officials have acknowledged that their “maximum pressure” policy has been a failed strategy and seek to resolve their problems with Iran, Vaezi said.
Iran has held no negotiations with the US since the victory of Joe Biden in US presidential election on November 3 and does not seek to hold talks with Washington either.
