0 US disappointed by Iran-IAEA agreement: Iranian envoy

Iran’s Ambassador to the UK Hamid Baeidinejad said that the recent agreement between Iran and United Nations’ nuclear watchdog to resolve nuclear safeguards problems has disappointed the US on continuation of its anti-Iran measures.

"The IAEA's admitting that its request for access to Iran's facilities should be based on IAEA's independent analysis and by provding the requested access, the IAEA would have no other question or request for another access to places except those mentioned, made the US disappointed with regard to taking the issue of Iran's safeguards to the UN Security Council," Baeidinejad tweeted on Wednesday.

Baeidinejad’s remarks came one day after Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced in a joint statement that the two sides agreed to further reinforce their nuclear cooperation.

The joint statement was released at the end of the two-day visit to Tehran by IAEA’s chief Rafael Mariano Grossi. He left Tehran Wednesday night after holding talks with the senior Iranian officials including President Hassan Rouhani, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi.

According to the six-point joint statement, the two sides agreed to further reinforce their cooperation and enhance mutual trust to facilitate the full implementation of Iran’s Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement (CSA) and the Additional Protocol (AP) thereto, which is provisionally applied by Iran since 16 January 2016.

Iran will also voluntarily provide the IAEA with access to two locations specified by the Agency.

“Both sides recognize the independence, impartiality and professionalism of the IAEA continue to be essential in the fulfilment of its verification activities,” reads the statement.

Also reacting to Iran-IAEA joint statement, Secretary-General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Helga Schmid has said that EU will continue its work to preserve the 2015 nuclear deal.

“Good news from Tehran on cooperation between #Iran and @iaeaorg. The EU trusts the impartial and independent role of the agency. In the meantime we continue our work to preserve #JCPOA with Joint Commission next week; I will chair on behalf of High Representative @JosepBorrellF,” Schmid tweeted on Wednesday.
