Trump mistakes UN for US: Khatibzadeh
“@RealDonaldTrump mistook United Nations for the United States once again. He addressed #UN75 like a campaign rally- glorifying his failed #OnlyAmerica policy & blaming others for crises of his own making: from his disastrous handling of Covid19 to his fanning of int'l tensions,” Khatibzadeh wrote on his Twitter account on Wednesday.
As of Tuesday evening, more than 6,916,400 people in the United States have been infected with the coronavirus and at least 200,600 have died, according to a New York Times database.
However, Trump and his people have routinely dismissed experts’ assessments of the gravity of the pandemic, and of the measures needed to bring it under control. They have tried to muzzle scientists who dispute the administration’s rosy spin.
Earlier in the day, Khatibzadeh said in another tweeted message that the US government is isolating itself with a very steep slope.
“The world's response to the US was a big No. The US government is isolating itself with a very steep slope and very fast.”
Khatibzadeh was referring to Trump’s latest humiliating failure last month at the UN when he was left isolated on the world stage as foreign allies and opponents alike declared demand to restore UN sanctions on Iran illegal and doomed to failure.
Trump administration said it is "snapping back" virtually all UN sanctions on Iran lifted under the nuclear accord with Tehran, negotiated under former president Barack Obama but which Trump abandoned in 2018.
Washington says it can reimpose the sanctions because it is still a "participant" in the accord, officially referred to as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), but Europe denounces the position as legally untenable.
