Significance of Rohani’s Third Visit to New York

On the verge of the annual session of the UN General Assembly and the third visit which will be made by Mr. Rohani to New York, it must be stated that, considering the issues that have been proposed before particularly the idea of a “world without violence” which is a real need in the region today and the world, it could be expected that Mr. Rohani’s proposals and ideas in his third trip will continue to be welcomed by the world. Since Iran is situated in a very tense and important region, its views are very important for the countries of the region and the world’s international powers. But the important point is that these views should be able to be transformed into actions both at domestic and international levels. Just as the idea of a “dialogue among civilizations” proposed by Mr. Khatami was welcomed by the world in 2001, it must be said that humanitarian proposals have always been welcomed by the world and it seems that this gate is still open for Iran.

The presence of the leaders of the different countries of the world in this assembly provides an opportunity for the Islamic Republic of Iran to present its ideas about regional and international issues and advance its role in the expansion of human values and norms in the world. The other important point which distinguishes Rohani’s third visit is that the leaders of countries meet each other right after the most important international agreement has been reached between Iran and the six world powers. In other words, the importance of the presence of the countries’ representatives in the UN is the ability to resolve international disputes as the founders of this international organization had intended. Certainly, the achievement of the nuclear agreement is a successful experience in the practice of the idea that the differences in the world could be solved with lower costs. In fact, this agreement proved that, instead of military actions and violent measures, the differences could be resolved through dialogue and with patience and perseverance. This agreement also showed the diplomatic power of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the strengthening of this approach by the world powers, especially the US, considering its internal issues. Now the countries of the world would be encouraged to follow this path in order to improve their relations with other countries. There is no doubt that countries could refrain from hostile measures which are costly and lead to extreme suffering for human society.
