(FNA)- Iranian Supreme Leader's top adviser for international affairs Ali Akbar Velayati underlined that the political statement issued by the UN Security Council to support the peace plan in Syria shows that international actors have understood the inefficiency of the military option.

"The measure, which is not clear to be beneficial to the Syrian nation or not, shows this reality that those who enjoy influence on the international scene have been faced with this truth that the Syrian issue has no military solution and I add that a solution which isn’t favored by the Syrian government and nation is not acceptable," Velayati said in a meeting with Syrian Information Minister Omran Ahid al-Za'bi in Tehran on Tuesday.

He stressed that enemies sought to hit a blow at the anti-Israeli and anti-American resistance front by launching a war on Syria but their plots have proved futile.

Velayati also underscored strategic ties between Tehran and Damascus and Iran's continued support for Syria, and said Iran's policies on the region and Syria are specified based on the guidelines of Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and are not subject to change.

The UN Security Council on Monday backed a new push for peace talks in Syria in a measure adopted.
