Tehran’s Daily Newspaper Review

The Judiciary was the centerpiece of Tehran’s dailies’ front pages today. Chief Magistrate Sadegh Larijani’s remarks were covered in interestingly –but expectedly- different ways by the anti-Ahmadinejad Shargh and Jomhouri-ye Eslami on the one hand, and Vatan-e Emrooz and Iran (whose editor-in-chief was sentenced to flagellation by the Judiciary last week) on the other. The head of the Physical Education Organization’s humiliating defeat in his bid to join the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Executive Board also appeared on the front page, another instance of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s bitter defeats in international organizations.
