Tenth Presidential Elections, A Lesson for Lawbreakers
By Abdollah Ramezanzadeh, spokesman of Khatami’s administration.
The ninth government has had the least effective policy in foreign diplomacy. Aware of lacking any achievements, they have decided to bash the foreign diplomacy of previous administrations and in this way there is no principle they want to observe. Unfortunately, once again the president himself has initiated an attack.
The Sa’dabad communiqué has been called an embarrassing document by Ahmadinejad. Let’s not that the Supreme Leader approved the communiqué, calling it a wise measure by the regime and a correct move which foiled United States’ efforts to isolate Iran. This shows that even the Supreme Leader’s opinion is not important for Ahmadinejad.
In one of his typical remarks, Ahmadinejad said that Khatami’s visit to France was one of the saddest days of his life, since Chirac did not come down the steps to welcome Khatami when he entered Elysee Palace. Expectedly, what he said was untrue and photos from the visit proved this. Chirac descended the steps to greet Khatami and contrary to diplomatic conventions followed Khatami to his vehicle.
It would be more acceptable if Ahmadinejad made some comments before his presidency. By now he should now that even in Iran the president does not greet a visitor in front of his airplane. Official receptions are made in presidential office in Pasteur street –previously they were held in Sa’dabad Palace. The president must be aware of the conventions and what he claims comes as a surprise.
What were Ahmadinejad’s achievements in international diplomacy? When Iran bid for membership in Security Council only thirty-five countries –none of which were influential- voted for Iran.
Musavi’s plans for foreign diplomacy focus on détente and trust-building. This is the most important advantage of his agenda in my opinion. Meanwhile, a well-known team of experts are electioneering for Musavi who have international reception, expertise and well-prepared plans. Other candidates lack such a group.
I believe that Iranians have made their final decision. I have visited various cities around the country and I am sure that people vote for honesty, efficiency and decency. They have decided not to allow another lawbreaking administration to rule the country.
Iranians trust one who has proved that he realizes what he promises. Those like Ahmadinejad who make a claim such as bringing oil to people’s houses and deny it later can not have people’s vote. People could not be more serious in this occasion and they have shown that when somebody betrays their trust they will not trust in him anymore. I have no doubt that the tenth presidential election will teach a good lesson to some and no one will ever dare to break the law.
