3 injured in Taliban attack on NATO forces in Kabul
A bomb attack has targeted NATO forces in the Afghan capital city of Kabul, leaving three people injured, officials say.
The car bombing was carried out in the southeastern part of the city on Tuesday, with the Taliban militant group claiming it in a message posted on Twitter.
According to Kabul police spokesman Ebadullah Karimi, two of the wounded were civilians while the third individual was a "foreigner." However, the spokesman did not specify the identity or nationality of the injured.
"We can confirm an attack on coalition forces occurred in Kabul at approximately 11:30 a.m. We are gathering further information on this incident," a spokesperson for the Western military coalition said, adding that no foreign forces were killed in the blast.
Tuesday's explosion comes a week after another Taliban attack hit a NATO military convoy on the main road to Kabul airport. At least two Afghans were killed in the blast, which injured over a dozen others.
A week before that, the militants attacked the Afghan parliament and killed two civilians.
Afghanistan is gripped by insecurity years after soldiers from the United States and its allies marched through the country in 2001 as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror.
At least 13,500 foreign forces remain in Afghanistan despite the end of the US-led combat mission, which came on December 31, 2014. The forces, mainly from the US, are there for what Washington calls a support mission. NATO says the forces focus mainly on counter-terrorism operations and training Afghan soldiers and policemen.
