Iran Raps Ahmed Shaheed for Unreal Report
(FNA)- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham blasted the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, Ahmed Shaheed, for giving out an unreal report and uttering biased remarks against Tehran.
"His comments and parts of his report which were used as reference have been presented biasedly and far from reality and with no respect for the regulations on the responsibilities entrusted on the Human Rights Council's agents," Afkham said on Saturday.
She regretted that Shaheed's report is dominated by a will beyond the UN human rights mechanisms, and said, "Iran views the unfair and unscientific performance of the special rapporteur with serious doubts due to his disrespect for the international principles and criteria."
Afkham underlined Iran's commitment to its national and international human rights undertakings, and said the Islamic Republic has adopted highly important measures in this regard, specially improvement of citizens, minorities and women's rights and will continue its efforts in this regard.
Iranian officials have repeatedly cautioned that Ahmed Shaheed has only parroted the unfounded allegations raised by anti-revolution elements against Iran since he had been tasked with accusing Iran.
In October, Secretary of Iran’s Human Rights Council Mohammad Javad Larijani blasted the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights, Ahmed Shaheed, for giving out biased reports against Tehran.
"Such a biased approach is in direct contradiction to the foundational principles of human rights," Larijani said, addressing the 20th session of the Working Group of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in Geneva, Switzerland.
Larijani, however, said that Iran had made significant achievements with regard to human rights situation in the recent years.
He described the UN resolutions against Iran and the appointment of a UN special rapporteur on the human rights situation in Iran as some of the challenges that Iran was facing at the present.
"Iran’s extensive efforts to improve the country’s human rights situation have faced serious challenges, including politically-motivated and meddling policies," Larijani added.
