Iran, Oman Playing Important Role in Fighting Terrorism
(FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in a meeting with his Omani counterpart Sheikh Khalid bin Hilal bin Nasser Al Mawali in Istanbul underlined that Iran and Oman play an important role in the campaign against terrorism.
"The Iran-Oman relations should upgrade their interactions to a higher level and they should cooperate more seriously in confronting terrorism," Larijani said.
He further voiced satisfaction in the two states bilateral relations, and added, "But these ties have been upgraded to an upper level in the new era and Oman's role in regional issues has always been positive."
The Omani parliament speaker, for his part, called for the further expansion of economic and political relations between Tehran and Muscat, and said, "The two countries' officials should increase their consultations in fighting extremism."
"We should not let them insult Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) in the name of freedom," Sheikh Khalid stressed.
In November, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Omani counterpart Yusuf bin Alawi in a meeting in Muscat warned against the rise of terrorist moves in the region.
During the meeting held on the sidelines of trilateral talks among Zarif, his US counterpart John Kerry and EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton in Oman's capital, the Iranian and Omani foreign ministers underlined the need for confronting the spread of terrorism in the region.
Zarif and Bin Alawi also discussed the activities of terrorist groups in the region, and called for collective efforts to uproot terrorism in the Middle East.
The two officials also discussed other regional and international developments, and stressed the need for enhancement of all-out ties between the two countries.
