Iran Working to Answer IAEA’s Remaining Questions
(FNA)- Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi announced on Monday that Tehran is working on responses to the only two remaining questions of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
"The IAEA had 18 questions and we have responded to all of them but 2 issues, they say that they haven’t been convinced and need more answers and we are trying to respond to them," Salehi told reporters in Tehran on Monday.
Stressing that the IAEA is regularly inspecting different nuclear sites in Iran, he said the UN nuclear watchdog has a resident inspector in Iran who is shifted every two weeks.
In relevant remarks in November, Caretaker of Iran's Permanent Mission to the UN Gholam Hossein Dehqani underscored that Tehran would continue its cooperation with the IAEA to remove any ambiguities about the country's peaceful nuclear program.
Addressing a UN General Assembly in the presence of Director-General of the IAEA Yukiya Amano in New York, Dehqani rejected alleged military dimensions of Iran's nuclear program, saying that Iran had no weapons program.
Noting that the allegations had been raised without any acceptable evidence, he, meantime, said that the Islamic Republic of Iran in light of the good faith would continue cooperation with the UN nuclear agency to remove any ambiguity about the nuclear program.
Dehqani said that based on IAEA Charter, the UN nuclear agency was responsible to help the member states develop nuclear capability for peaceful means.
He said that the rights of the signatory states to the Non-Proliferation Treaty to technical and economic development had to be respected.
Dehqani made clear that as repeatedly stated by senior Iranian officials, areas associated with national security such as defensive capabilities would never be subject to negotiations at any level.
