Iran, Iraq Discuss Bilateral Ties, Regional Developments

(FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Iraqi President Fouad Massoum in a meeting in Baghdad on Wednesday explored avenues for bolstering and reinvigorating bilateral ties.

During the meeting in the Iraqi capital today, Larijani and Massoum underlined the need for the further expansion of mutual cooperation.

The Iranian parliament speaker and the Iraqi president also discussed regional and international developments.

Earlier today, Larijani and his Iraqi counterpart Salim al-Jabouri in a meeting in Baghdad called for the further expansion of parliamentary ties between the two states.

Larijani arrived in the holy city of Najaf, Southern Iraq, early Tuesday on the last leg of regional tour of Lebanon, Syria and Iraq.

He arrived in Baghdad today to hold meetings with the Iraqi president, prime minister, parliament speaker and a group of other Iraqi figures and political leaders.

Larijani started his tri-nation tour of Syria, Lebanon and Iraq on Sunday.

Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties ever since the overthrow of the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, during the 2003 US invasion of the Muslim country.
