Iran’s Army, IRGC plan to stage joint drill: Commander
Commander of Iran's Ground Forces says the Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) plan to stage a joint military maneuver in southeastern Iran in the second half of the current Iranian calendar year.
The drill will cover an area of 250,000 square kilometers from the northern part of Sistan and Baluchestan Province down to the coasts of the Sea of Oman, Ahmad Reza Pourdastan told reporters on Sunday.
He said that the Army’s Ground Forces enhance their military capabilities in proportion to the enemies’ threats, adding, “We are currently working on a defense doctrine in proportion to the enemies’ threats. So, we will array our tactics in line with threats.”
The commander noted that the Ground Forces have been deployed in Iran’s western and southwestern border regions and strengthened their units to counter any possible threats by the enemies.
He noted that the Ground Forces are capable of building and upgrading tanks, saying that the country would unveil new achievements on September 22.
Iran is set to unveil later this month a new indigenous surface-to-air missile defense system named Talash-3, which was successfully test-fired recently.
In recent years, Iran has taken great strides in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.
The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured other countries that its military might poses no threat to other states, saying that its defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
