Senior Negotiator: Iran, G5+1 Aim to Reach Comprehensive Deal
(FNA)- Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi stressed that the talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) aim to reach a final agreement on Tehran nuclear standoff with the West.
"Talks on enrichment and relevant issues will continue until the two parties reach final understanding," Araqchi, also Iran's senior negotiator in talks with the six world powers, told reporters on Thursday.
He reiterated that Iran-G5+1 talks in Vienna on Thursday fell within framework of the Geneva Accord final step to reach a comprehensive solution.
In relevant remarks on Thursday, Iranian Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Reza Najafi underlined that representatives of Iran and the G5+1 would only focus on technical issues in their ongoing talks in Vienna, Austria.
"The fresh expert-level talks between Iran and the six world powers on Tehran's nuclear energy program will cover all remaining issues related to a final deal," Najafi said.
He reiterated that the third round of the expert-level talks between Iran and the G5+1 which started on Thursday afternoon in Vienna, will include all remaining issues agreed to be brought up within the framework of the comprehensive and final deal.
The talks between Tehran and the six world powers (the US, Russia, France, Britain, China and Germany) are part of efforts to seal a final deal on Iran’s nuclear energy program.
On November 24, the two sides reached an interim deal in Geneva to set the stage for the full settlement of the dispute over Iran’s nuclear energy program.
Under the Geneva deal, the six countries agreed to provide Iran with some sanctions relief in exchange for Iran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities during a six-month period. It was also agreed that no nuclear-related sanctions would be imposed on Iran within the same time frame.
Referring to the Thursday session between expert teams representing Iran and the six countries, Najafi stated that the session lasted six hours and “the two sides expressed their views and ideas clearly.”
Representatives of Iran and the G5+1 wrapped up their last round of high-level nuclear talks in Vienna on March 19. The two sides are set to resume their negotiations on April 7-9.
Hamid Baeidinejad, the director general for political and international affairs at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, heads the Iranian delegation in this round of expert-level talks.
