Iran calls on Syria, Turkey to show restraint
(KUNA) -- Iran called Sunday on Syria and Turkey to show self-restraint after military escalation between the two neighboring countries.
Iran is deeply concerned over the military tension between Turkey and Syria, following the downing of Syrian warplane by Turkey in Kassab border region, Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hussain Amir Abdullahyan told IRNA news agency.
Abdullahyan said "resort to military force will not help resolve the problem, but on the contrary, it could further complicate the situation." "Dialogue between Tehran and Ankara to help find a solution to the Syrian crisis will continue and the two countries are determined to fight against terrorism and both support a political solution to the crisis." Earlier, the Syrian government described the shutdown of its warplane by Turkey as a "unprecedented military aggression and unwarranted against the sanctity of the rule of Syrian territory."
