Iran, Qatar Hold First Joint Political Committee in Tehran
(FNA)- Iranian and Qatari foreign ministry officials, co-chairing the first meeting of Tehran-Doha Joint Political Committee, stressed the need for widening and deepening the two states' all-out ties as well as restoring sustainable peace and tranquility to the region.
Iranian Deputy Foreign for Arab and African Affairs Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and his Qatari counterpart Mohammad Ibn Abdullah al-Ramihi, in the meeting in Tehran on Saturday, reviewed ways to promote bilateral ties as part of the political discussions between the two countries.
The two delegations also discussed the latest regional and international developments and underlined the necessity to find a political solution to ongoing crises across the region, particularly in Syria.
They agreed to hold joint political committee sessions alternately in Iran and Qatar every three months.
The Iranian and Qatari diplomats called for collective efforts by governments of the region to restore peace and security to the region.
Meanwhile, the two parties agreed to hold foreign ministers meeting in Tehran within the next three months in the context of Joint Iran-Qatar High Commission.
In mid-February, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani and Qatari Parliament Speaker Muhammad Bin Mubarak Bin Saleh al-Khalifi, voiced enthusiasm for utilizing their countries' abundant potentials to consolidate Tehran-Doha relations in various cultural, economic, political, tourism and environmental domains.
Speaking at the meeting which was held on the sidelines of the 9th Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States' Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Tehran, the Iranian President underscored that Iran is determined to further bolster all-out ties with Doha.
He also voiced Iran's readiness to boost economic, cultural, tourism and environmental relations with friendly Qatar.
Referring to Iran-Qatar ties as historic and friendly, the Qatari Parliament speaker wished success and prosperity for the Islamic Republic of Iran.
He expressed his satisfaction with the serious developments which are taking place during President Rouhani's term in office.
Both Iran and Qatar have recently augmented efforts to further expand ties and cooperation in all the different political, economic, defense, security and cultural fields.
The two Persian Gulf littoral states recently signed several protocols to increase mutual cooperation.
