Official: Iran to Launch 2nd Phase of Bushehr Plant Facility Soon
(FNA)- Deputy Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Asqar Zare’an announced that the water sweetening facility and the second phase of the country’s first nuclear power plant in the Southern Bushehr province will start operation in the next Iranian year (March 21, 2014-March 20, 2015).
“The second phase of the 1,000-megawatt Bushehr nuclear power plant and the port city’s water sweetening facility will be inaugurated next (Iranian) year,” Zare’an said, addressing an Exhibition of Iran’s Nuclear Achievements in the Western city of Kermanshah on Saturday.
The Islamic Republic signed the Bushehr contract with Russia in 1995 and the nuclear power plant reached its full capacity by August 2012.
The Bushehr nuclear power plant is located about 18 kilometers South of the provincial capital.
In September, Iran received the temporary control of all operations at Bushehr nuclear power plant from the Russian contractor after signing a relevant protocol.
The power plant now needs to be turned off for refueling and routine tests.
