Larijani: OIC Parliamentary Meeting Opportunity for Focusing on Muslim World Problems

(FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani described the Palestinian issue as among the most important problems of the Muslim world, and said the present meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Tehran has provided a good opportunity for studying such major Muslim issues.

Tehran is now hosting the 9th Meeting of the OIC Inter-Parliamentary Union and the 16th IPU Public Committee meeting with the participation of over 25 parliament speakers, 10 vice-speakers and 50 parliamentary delegations from different world states.

“The conference is being held at a time when we are facing different issues in the Muslim countries and representatives of the Islamic Ummah are required to discuss them,” Larijani said, addressing the 16th Meeting of the Public Committee of the IPU of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation.

He described the Palestinian issue as one of the most important challenges of the Muslim world, and said, “The conference has also provided an opportunity to study and discuss other issues which have afflicted the Muslim world.”

He expressed the hope that the conference would cause increasing convergence and unity among Muslims, and said, “We hope that we can work out ways for for the development of the Islamic countries and use scientific and technological capacities of the Muslim world in a better way.”

In relevant remarks on Friday, Larijani underlined that the IPU can pave the way for boosting unity among Muslims, and called on Muslim assemblies to do their best to strengthen the Union.

“The IPU which was founded with the membership of some 52 Islamic parliaments has established close cooperation with 22 international organizations,” said Larijani at the opening ceremony of the 31st Executive Committee of the IPU in Tehran on Friday.

He emphasized that the Islamic parliaments can establish close relations with the various Muslim nations and reflects the demands of their nations in practice through membership in the parliamentary union of the Organization of the OIC.

“An inter-parliamentary union can serve as a center for comprehending the demands of the Islamic Ummah (nation) and pursing their implementation through various ways,” added the parliament speaker.

“This conference is focusing on the advancements of the Islamic countries and the motto of the international event is Solidarity, Advancement and Justice,” he said.
