Sweden Urges EU for New, Broad Dialogue With Iran
The Swedish foreign minister has urged the European Union to engage in a broad dialogue with Iran during a visit to that country.
Carl Bildt tweeted from Tehran on Wednesday that while he has "a strong sense of a society searching for a new and more open future," there are also forces resisting change.
He said the EU should "engage in a new and broad dialogue with Iran. Build new trust over the gulfs of mistrust of the past."
Bildt met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Tuesday.
He criticized Iran for blocking citizens from tweeting while decision makers, including Zarif, use the service. Bildt got hold of a virtual private network to bypass the restrictions and wrote "that's what people do."
