Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has appointed Marzieh Afkham as the first spokeswoman of Iran’s Foreign Ministry.
Afkham will replace Seyyed Abbas Araqchi.
She served as Foreign Ministry's Director General for Information and Press for eight years. The Iranian diplomat also served as Foreign Ministry’s Director General for Public Diplomacy under former foreign minister, Ali Akbar Salehi.

Abbas Araqchi, former Foreign Ministry spokesman described the appointment of a spokeswoman and a female ambassador as a “step forward” in the country’s foreign policy.
