Envoy: Enemies Trying to Hit Axis of Resistance in Syria

(FNA)- Syria has been targeted by enemies due to the country's stance against Israel and its support for the oppressed Palestinian nation, an Iranian diplomat said, adding that current unrest in Syria is part of the plot hatched to hit axis of resistance against Israel.
Addressing a photo exhibition in Beirut organized by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC) to mark the International Quds Day, Iran's Ambassador to Lebanon Qazanfar Roknabadi pointed to developments in Syria, and stated, "The enemy intends to take revenge from Syria due to its support for Palestine, and accordingly it is plotting to weaken Syria."

"But," the diplomat added "the government and nation of Syria will come out of this crisis victoriously."

He condemned Israel's efforts to arm rebels under the guise of support for democracy in Syria.

Earlier this month, Syria's Ambassador to Iran Hamed Hassan blamed the US and Zionist regime of Israel for insecurities in Syria, saying that Tel Aviv and Washington are seeking to hit the Syrian nation for its support for the resistance front.

"Syria is in war with an axis of evil shaped in Washington and Tel Aviv and joined by a number of Arab and western countries," Hamed Hassan said at a conference on Syria here in Tehran.

"The plot is aimed at hitting a blow at the Syrian nation and government because Syria has always been part of the axis of resistance and opposed the role of the US and the Zionist regime which seek hegemony over the region," the diplomat underscored.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.

In October, calm was eventually restored in the Arab state after President Assad started a reform initiative in the country, but Israel, the US and its Arab allies are seeking hard to bring the country into chaos through any possible means. Tel Aviv, Washington and some Arab capitals have been staging various plots in the hope of stirring unrests in Syria once again.

The US and its western and regional allies have long sought to topple Bashar al-Assad and his ruling system. Media reports said that the Syrian rebels and terrorist groups have received significantly more and better weapons in recent weeks, a crime paid for by the Persian Gulf Arab states and coordinated by the United States.
