(FNA)- Head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Ammar al-Hakim said Sunday that any progress in the talks between Iran and the six world powers in Baghdad on Wednesday would strengthen Iraq's standing in the region.

Hakim said success in Tehran-Powers talks in Baghdad would display Iraq's remarkable role in resolving regional and international issues, resulting in the weaker and lesser meddling of the regional countries in Iraq.

He also underlined that progress in the negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1 powers would also serve the interests of the entire regional nations.

He further voiced optimism about the outcomes of these talks, given the two sides' positive comments after a similar meeting in Istanbul last month.

Hakim also stressed strong support for Iran's access to the peaceful nuclear technology, and said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has always acted upon international rules and mechanisms since its establishment."

He reminded the western states have deprived Iran of its rights in various fields, "but Tehran has never violated the international rules and regulations".

Iran on May 23 is to meet representatives of the Group 5+1 in Iraq's capital for the second round of talks which were revived in April in Istanbul after a 15-month hiatus.
