TEHRAN, April 10 (MNA) – Hossein Sheikholeslam, the Iranian parliament speaker’s advisor on international issues, said on Tuesday that Iran has contacted the Syrian opposition.

“Iran has influence on (Syrian) national forces and the Syrian government and can persuade certain regional countries to accept its views. On the other hand, it has recently made contacts with the Syrian opposition, which shows Iran’s influential role in resolving issues facing Syria,” he stated.

Sheikholeslam added, “Kofi Annan was the West’s selection about whom no consultations were held with Syria.

“However, Kofi Annan’s engagement in the Syrian issue illustrates the fact that efforts by the U.S.-Israeli bloc and two regional kings meant to undermine the line of resistance have failed because Kofi Annan’s engagement signifies the failure of a military solution.”
