Iran Offers Cooperation with Japan on N. Safety
TEHRAN (FNA)- Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili voiced Tehran's preparedness to cooperate with Japan in the field of nuclear safety.
Speaking at a meeting with Former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama here in Tehran on Sunday, Jalili pointed to Iran's technical achievements in using nuclear energy for peaceful means, including building nuclear fuel plates for the Tehran research reactor, and noted that Tehran is ready for cooperating with Tokyo in nuclear safety.
Nuclear safety covers the actions taken to prevent nuclear and radiation accidents or to limit their consequences. This covers nuclear power plants as well as all other nuclear facilities, the transportation of nuclear materials, and the use and storage of nuclear materials for medical, power, industry, and military uses.
Jalili further called the US the main culprit in atomic bombing of Hiroshima and urged a global move for disarming nuclear powers, including the United States.
Jalili also stressed that common views and shared interests have provided a proper ground for the expansion of ties between Iran and Japan.
During the meeting, Hatoyama praised the Islamic Republic of Iran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and slammed the hawkish views and stances of the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) in dealing with Iran's nuclear issue, stressing that G5+1 should not be seen as to be reflecting the views and decisions of the international community.
"The Group 5+1 is not equal to the international community," he reiterated.
