Talk of closing Hormuz Strait is a thing of the past: IRGC official

Mehr News – A top IRGC commander, Masoud Jazayeri, says the talk of closing the Strait of Hormuz dates from five years ago and Iran has other options that will be revealed “when the time comes,” IRNA reported on Saturday.

First Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi warned on Tuesday Iran will not allow “a drop of oil” pass through the Strait of Hormuz if an oil embargo is imposed on the Islamic Republic.

The Iranian Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, in an interview with Press TV also said, “Closing the Strait of Hormuz for Iran's armed forces is really easy ... or as Iranians say it will be easier than drinking a glass of water.”

30 percent of world's seaborne oil exports is shipped through the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ramin Mehmanparast said on December 14 that Iran’s threat of closing the Strait of Hormuz is a response to the United States’ threats against the Islamic Republic.
