French convoy attack injures 7 in Iraq
An improvised bomb targeting the passing convoy went off near the French ambassador's residence on Monday, AFP reported.
According to an Iraqi interior ministry official, four of the wounded were Iraqi guards protecting the French convoy, and three were passers-by.
The French embassy confirmed the Monday attack, but there was no immediate report on the casualty toll.
Reports show that bombings have been on the rise in Iraq since the beginning of 2011, and violent incidents averaged more than 10 a day in May, up from four to five a day in January.
On Wednesday, a woman and her son were killed in an attack by an Apache helicopter of the US military, and several others were also seriously injured.
Over one million Iraqis have died since the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, according to the California-based media research group Project Censored.
