Xinhua -- Iran plans to send a convoy to Bahrain to pronounce solidarity with Bahraini protesters, the local satellite Press TV reported on Tuesday.

Head of Iran's Association of Islamic Revolution Followers Mehdi Eghrarian said in Tehran on Tuesday that the convoy will leave the Iranian southern port city of Bushehr on board a ship on May 16, according to a Press TV correspondent.

The move is aimed at condemnation of violence against anti- government protesters in Bahrain, Eghrarian was quoted as saying.

The ship will be named after Bahraini poetess Ayat al-Ghermezi who was killed by Saudi-backed forces of Bahrain, Eghrarian said, calling on activists from other countries to join the convoy.

Iran's Association of Islamic Revolution Followers is a non- governmental organization that focuses on the cultural issues of the Muslim world, he was quoted as saying.

The announcement came as Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast warned on Tuesday against "adverse and negative " consequences of violence against Bahrain's protesters.

Meanwhile, Mehmanparast said that Iran's foreign policy respects the territorial integrity of other countries. He refuted any allegations of interference in other countries' internal affairs levelled at Iran.
