Iran to supply electricity to neighbours

Tribune--Iran will export 70 megawatts of electricity to Afghanistan and Pakistan in the current Iranian year, which ends on March 20, Fars news agency reported.

Managing Director of Tavanir, Iran’s state-run power supplying and distributing company, Homayoun Ha’eri said Tehran plans to boost power supplies to the two neighbouring countries through its southeastern Sistan-Balochistan province.Ha’eri said Iran would increase supplies to Afghanistan and Pakistan once the 400 kilo volts transmission line, between the city of Zahedan in Sistan-Balochistan province and the city of Birjand in the South Khorasan province, came online in the near future.

Iran is one of the most important donors to Afghanistan and is helping with reconstruction of the war-ravaged country, by building roads, power transmission lines, border stations and many other infrastructure projects to better link the two nations. Also, Iran has offered cheap electricity to Pakistan to reduce the country’s acute energy shortages.

Nuclear war: Iran snubs US, invites Russia, China

One India news
-- Iran invited several nations like Russia, China, who all are part of European Union, to view its (Iran’s) nuclear facilities, though the nation snubbed United States.

Iran’s invitation, which is believed to divide the alliance of nations opposed to Iran’s nuclear ambitions, has been rejected by the United States. However, States spokesperson, PJ Crowley on Monday, Jan 3 informed, "There’s no invitation in our in-box."
It’s (invitation) a clever ploy, but it’s not a substitute for Iran’s responsibilities to the IAEA. It won’t draw international attention away from the issues regarding Iran’s nuclear programme," added Crowley.
The new round between Tehran, and the permanent UN Security Council members, ie US, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany is expected to set for Istanbul, Turkey in late Jan 2011.
Iran attended a 2-day meeting on nuclear talks with the United States and other countries in Geneva in Dec 2010, but the meeting failed to be productive.
The atmosphere was frosty," stated diplomats who took part in the meeting and the diplomats also informed that there was no separate meeting between the American and Iranian representatives.
