Raeisi: Independent states can neutralize sanctions by meeting each other’s needs
Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi said independent states can thwart threats by the world’s hegemonic powers and neutralize their sanctions, thus making them futile, by improving the level of their bilateral ties and meeting each other’s needs.
Making the remarks in a Tuesday meeting with Cuba’s new ambassador to Iran, Alberto Gonzalez Casals, to receive his credentials, Raeisi also underlined the importance of developing and deepening relations between Tehran and Havana, president.ir wrote.
He added the anti-imperialism and anti-oppression nature of the Iranian and Cuban nations has brought them closer together, noting that the two states’ close ties must further improve in all sectors, including the economic, trade and cultural fields, in line with their peoples’ interests.
Raeisi said that sanctions and threats have become two new tools in the oppressors’ hands against independent states, emphasizing that under such circumstances, sovereign countries must take steps toward neutralizing the sanctions through using their capacities and meeting each other’s needs.
Commenting on the principles of liberation revolutions and movements in different parts of the world, the Iranian president added, “We have learned from the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, to support nations’ resistance in the face of injustice and cruelty. On that basis, improving relations with those countries that tread the path of fighting hegemonic powers is among the Islamic Republic’s definite policies.”
He described ties between Iran and Cuba as strategic, saying the Islamic Republic has strategic relations with all those countries at the forefront of the fight against domineering powers.
The Cuban ambassador said Havana and Tehran have strong brotherly political relations, voicing his country’s willingness to raise the level of its economic and trade ties with Iran in proportion to bilateral political relations.
