World leaders’ congratulations on Raeisi win keep pouring in
Three days on after Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi achieved victory in Iran’s 2021 presidential election, congratulations by world leaders on his win kept pouring in on Monday.
Raeisi garnered almost 62 percent of the votes in Friday’s election, with a turnout of 48.8 percent, and will succeed President Hassan Rouhani, who has served two four-year terms in office.
Indian President Ram Nath Kovind congratulated Raeisi on his election win in a tweet, saying he is confident that relations between Tehran and New Delhi will continue to grow under the new president, IRNA reported.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also had congratulated Raeisi on Sunday in a tweet which read: “Congratulations to His Excellency Ebrahim Raisi on his election as President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. I look forward to working with him to further strengthen the warm ties between India and Iran.”
Chinese President Xi Jinping also extended his congratulations to Raeisi, stressing that China and Iran are “comprehensive strategic partners”.
He added, “I attach great importance to expanding relations between China and Iran.”
The Chinese president noted that he is interested in cooperating with Raeisi to strengthen strategic relations and mutual political trust between the two countries and develop mutually beneficial cooperation.
Lebanese President Michel Aoun also sent a message to Raeisi congratulating his victory.
Wishing Iran’s president-elect success in his new position, he stressed the importance of developing friendly relations between Beirut and Tehran.
Prior to the Lebanese president, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the secretary general of Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement, sent a message to the president-elect, saying, “I congratulate you on this great victory and your election as the president at this critical juncture in Iran’s history.”
“Your election win revived the hopes of the Iranian nation and other regional nations for the future and their power to counter challenges,” he added. “Resistance fighters and freedom-seeking people consider you a fortified stronghold against aggressors.”
On Saturday, he had reacted to Raeisi’s election by tweeting “Hello Ebrahim”.
Pakistan’s President Arif Alvi was yet another world leader to offer Raeisi his congratulations.
He said in a statement on Sunday night that the Iranian people have trusted Raeisi’s motivation for establishing peace, promoting welfare and accelerating the country’s development.
Alvi added he is confident that during Raeisi’s term in office, brotherly ties between Iran and Pakistan will be further strengthened.
On Saturday, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan congratulated Raeisi on his election win.
In his congratulatory message to Iran’s president-elect, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow said for years, multi-faceted relations between Turkmenistan and Iran have been known as a concrete manifestation of good neighborliness.
“We completely believe that our friendly and brotherly relations will be developed more than ever based on our rich experiences and mutual respect and in line with the two countries’ interests.”
