IRGC chief: Iran to respond ‘proportionately’ to Israel’s ‘vicious acts’

The chief commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said Monday Iran will respond “proportionately” to Israel’s acts against the Islamic Republic.

“Iran will respond proportionately or more strongly to any vicious act,” Major General Hossein Salami said in remarks carried by Sepah news. 

Salami added that Israel’s vicious acts in the region “will backfire on them” and “expose them to real dangers” in the future.

He warned that the continuation of such acts by Israel “will bring them closer to disintegration”. 

The general said “certain developments” took place in Israel recently, indicating that Zionists’ measures will not remain unanswered.

“In the past few days, you have witnessed how their vicious acts did not go unanswered, and how certain development happened inside the occupied territories,” Salami said.

On Thursday, a missile fired from Syria exploded near Israel’s Dimona nuclear reactor, an incident that triggered warning sirens near the secretive site and an Israeli strike in Syria.

Without referring to the explosion, Salami said such incidents “will definitely recur and will become more prevalent in the future”.

Also on Sunday, Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri said the recent measures taken by the resistance movements and their future moves will bring the Zionists to their senses.

“The Zionists think that they can permanently target the Syrian territory and do mischief in different places and in the seas and not get a response,” Baqeri told reporters.

"The measures taken in the last few days and the future actions endangering their interests will certainly bring them to their senses. The future is bright for the resistance front,” he added.

Baqeri touched on a series of incidents in Iran, including a power outage at Natanz uranium enrichment facility in the central province of Isfahan, as well as attacks on oil tankers in international waters, in which Israel is suspected of having a role. 

"We will not announce anything about the perpetrators of the incidents and we do not know who they are, but the resistance front will give a fundamental response to the Zionists," he said.

Asked about Iran's possible reaction if Israel continues its acts of mischief, the general said: "It is not clear what Iran's response will be, but the Zionist regime will not remain calm."
