The Iranian president has written to the Qatari Emir that both countries have been following a single objective which is to build a safe and strong region based on collective dialogue and mutual understanding and cooperation, IRNA reported.
In mid-February, President Rouhani in a meeting with the visiting Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani in Tehran had said that security and peace in the region will be materialized only through cooperation among regional countries.
Referring to the recent developments in the region and the necessity of developing joint cooperation between Tehran and Doha, President Rouhani said that Iran-Qatar relations have been very good and expanding in the past years.
He added that opportunities should be used to develop and deepen relations with upcoming new international conditions.
During the meeting with the Qatari foreign minister, Rouhani also pointed to the warm welcome Iran's initiative for dialogue among Persian Gulf states received from the countries in the region.
The Hormuz Peace Endeavor - HOPE – initiative, proposed by President Rouhani at the 74th meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, aims to establish security in the region, including the Persian-Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Sea of Oman with the participation of all countries of the region and without the intervention of foreign forces.
