Zarif: United Iranians repelled hundreds of wars in millennia

United together, Iranians have repelled hundreds of wars imposed on them through the millennia-long history of the country, said the Iranian minister of foreign affairs.
Mohammad Javad Zarif made the remark in a Twitter post on Monday, adding that is why Iran is the oldest continuous country in human civilization.
“All Iranians—regardless of ethnicity, dialect or creed—standing united have together repelled over 444 wars imposed on them throughout our proud, millennia-long history.
Is it any wonder, then, that Iran is the oldest continuous country in human civilization,” Zarif’s post read:
He used the hashtag “#StandingTall” at the end of his post.
Iran has been under US renewed unilateral sanctions since May 2018, when President Donald Trump pulled Washington out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, signed between the Islamic Republic and the P5+1 in July 2015.
Mainly targeting Iran’s oil and banking sectors, the sanctions failed to produce the desired result — bringing Iran to the negotiating table for a new nuclear deal — thanks to the Iranian people’s resilience.
In addition to the sanctions and its economic war on Iran, the US has, on different occasions and under different administrations, threatened to invade the Islamic Republic, an empty threat which has been responded to appropriately and vigorously by Iranian officials.
