New Chapter in Iran-Italy Relations

As time passes, desirable signs of the agreement made between Iran and the P5+1 regarding the nuclear issue are being revealed. The visits made by European delegations to Tehran and the warm welcome of the European Union and the Far East countries to invest in Iran are all tangible results of this agreement. Thus, the upcoming visit of Italy’s Prime Minister along with an economic delegation comprised of 120 individuals is indicative of this reality.

On this basis, following President Rouhani’s visit to Rome and then Paris, this week Tehran will host the Prime Minister of Italy and his delegation. This visit shows that the recent meeting between Iran’s President and Italy’s Prime Minister in Rome was fruitful, having now encouraged Italian officials to implement the positive decisions that were made in Rome. At the present time, the important issue for the Rouhani administration and the private sector is that the decisions made on paper become implemented in accordance with the guidelines of the Supreme Leader. The present atmosphere shows that the upcoming visit of Italy’s Prime Minister will pave the way for the implementation of the signed agreements between the two countries.

The Prime Minister of Italy is scheduled to attend a meeting in Iran’s Chamber of Commerce wherein Iran’s First Vice-President and Italian businessmen and trade officials will also be present. Based on the outcome of the previous meetings, one can predict that these meetings will also be fruitful. What is interesting is that both sides are determined to implement the decisions which were made and signed in the memorandums of understanding in the areas of agriculture, industry, mine, technology and cultural exchanges. These steps will neutralize the misconceptions spread by foreign media with regard to the differences between the senior Iranian officials in the implementation of the JCPOA and prove that all officials in Iran are making great efforts to implement what has been written on paper as was mentioned by the Supreme Leader.
