Return to the World

Separately from technical discussions about the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, nuclear negotiations and this agreement can be considered as Iran’s successful return to the international scene. The JCPOA has had two fundamental successes for Iran: Iran is recognized as a regional power by the powers which are still not interested in the existence of an independent power in the geopolitical and sensitive Persian Gulf region; the second point is the establishment of a relative consensus among the people to view the future through long-term perspectives. I believe that these two outcomes are more important than the JCPOA’s possible share in the economic future of the country which is undoubtedly dependent on its proper management. It is well-known that relations at the international level are very damaging. The world is faced with non-homogenous militarism, one side of which is the police-security systems and endless arms factories of the big powers and the other side the post-modern international terrorism which is terribly ruthless and is equipped with advanced intelligence information. In today’s world, we are entangled in a vicious circle. All people who intend to live in peace and tranquility witness severe damages which are dealt to nature and nature’s reactions which have made living on this planet impossible. They will see the downfall of spiritual values and further instability of democratic achievements and economic opportunities. There is brutality and barbarism against human beings every day. Under such conditions, whoever who could play the smallest role in changing this path must take steps in this regard. This measure could only be taken by participation and rational and balanced actions and for doing so, we must first recognize ourselves.

The second outcome is as important as the first one. We live in a country where revolutionary fervor still runs high. Revolutionary slogans are still alive. These slogans have, hitherto, protected us from economic neo-liberalism. The government still holds parts of the economic, education, health, financial, security, and transport sectors. Irresponsibility of neo-liberalism in the world during the past 30 years, one of the effects of which has been the destruction of the Middle East, could threaten us. Under these conditions, the nuclear agreement reached on the issue which had exerted international pressure on Iran for the last decade must be considered as a big national victory. We must move the society towards the objectives for which it has made a revolution; on top of those objectives is undoubtedly freedom and independence for all Iranians; then it is people’s shares in the huge resources of this land, whether human or natural. We might still be far from this ideal situation and this agreement shows us the path, although it needs security and certainty about continuation of social peace. We must be very careful about our ideas and actions. Although our diplomatic victory in the JCPOA was sweet and hopeful, unwise actions including the attack against the Saudi embassy was bitter and indicated how small groups could destroy big achievements in a short period of time. Therefore, as the outside enemy is strongly dealt with, those inside who leave the path of wisdom and logic must also be contained. Intelligent statements and wise actions of Iran’s government officials have, hitherto, prevented tension-creating crises. We hope that the same path would continue in the upcoming year and show, as all big powers do, that the power lies on moderation and intelligent positions.

Hopefully, we will begin the new year with this idea and continue with wise statements and actions.
