Hamas Denies Presence in Syria

A representative of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, in Iran denies any message of condolences by the movement on the occasion of the so-called Jaysh al-Islam leader Zahran Aloush’s death on December 25 following a Russian air strike on the suburbs of Damascus.

“Hamas stresses never to intervene in any country’s internal affairs and asks Arab and Islamic countries not to victimize the Movement for their internal crises and regional conflicts because Hamas is a Jihadist movement with Palestine as its main objective and dynamic and the Zionist regime as its sole enemy,” Khaled Qadoumi reiterated.

He went on explain that the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, exited Syria in 2012 ceasing all activities, while he denied the existence of a Syrian branch of the movement.

“Dirty hands seek division among the Islamic Ummah all the time, thus it is our duty to be united in order to prevent suspicious efforts,” he added at the end of his remarks.

Jaysh al-Islam, an important part of the Islamic Front in Syria, has been critical of Hamas, accusing its leaders of being linked to Iran.

According to local sources, the so-called Syrian branch of the movement has separated itself from the central headquarters and works independently.
