Tehran’s Daily Newspaper Review
363 days ago, the government organized a massive rally against supporters of the Green Movement who were scattered in central Tehran on the holy day of Ashoura as they staged their last protest in 8 months of street demonstrations. Apart from the unprecedented clash between protestors and police forces, the protestors were accused of tarnishing the sanctity of Ashoura by cheering on a day when all Shi’as mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussein. The government’s response to the protest effectively swept the protestors off the streets after 8 months of chain rallies in Tehran and some other major cities. So it came as no surprise that hard-line dailies such as Kayhan and Vatan-e Emrooz designated a considerable secion of their front pages to the commemoration of the 9th of Dey 1388 (December 30th, 2009).

Along with Ayatollah Yazdi, he has objected to Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei’s recent remarks that implicitly criticized religious leaders for not appreciating music and thus calling some styles of music haram (against Islamic codes.)
