Iran Navy Commander Leaves for Russia
(FNA)- Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari left Tehran for Moscow Tuesday to attend the Summit of the Navy Commanders of the Caspian Sea littoral states.
Sayyari, who is accompanied by a high-ranking military delegation, will also pay a visit to the Russia's defense capabilities expo.
In October 2014, Iranian and Russian Naval forces staged joint exercises in the Caspian Sea.
In October 2013, Sayyari and his Kazakh counterpart Rear Admiral Zhandarbek Zhanzakov, in a meeting in Tehran underlined the need for boosting cooperation between the two countries in the Caspian Sea.
“… at the meeting we discussed expansion of mutual cooperation in educational fields and exchange of university students as well as repair, maintenance and building warships,” Admiral Sayyari told reporters following the meeting.
Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan Republic, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan have borders with the Caspian Sea.
