(FNA)- Tehran and Ankara announced that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will travel to Iran on Tuesday.
In a joint statement on Saturday, both capitals stressed that the Erdogan's visit will lay ground for the further promotion of bilateral ties.
According to the statement, during his stay in Iran, the Turkish president is to exchange views on issues of mutual interest with President Rouhani.
He is also scheduled to visit Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
President Erdogan will head a high-ranking delegation which compromises a number of the Turkish ministers.
The Turkish delegation is slated to participate in the second joint meeting of the Iran-Turkey High Council of Strategic Cooperation, the statement noted.
The first meeting of the council was held during Rouhani’s visit to Ankara in June 9, 2014.
Late in March, Turkish Charge d'Affaires Barish Saygen was called to the Iranian Foreign Ministry to present explanations over the recent remarks made by President Erdogan concerning Iran.
"In the absence of the Turkish ambassador, we invited the country's Charge d'Affaires (Barish Saygen) to the foreign ministry and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs (Ebrahim Rahimpour) conveyed Iran's protest and regret to him over (President) Erdogan's remarks and we demanded a clear response in this regard," Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran's strategic approach to the region and its relations with the neighbors are based on peace, stability and cooperation with mutual respect, and we believe that Iran-Turkey cooperation has sufficient capacity for achieving this goal," Afkham said.
