Iran parliamentary delegation to visit Oman, Qatar, Kuwait
An Iranian parliamentary delegation plans to visit the three Persian Gulf Arab states of Oman, Kuwait and Qatar in the near future, an Iranian lawmaker says.
Spokesman for the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Seyyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said on Monday that the visit, which will take place in late September, is aimed at promoting “parliamentary diplomacy.”
“Given the new level of Iran’s relations with [its] neighboring states and the Islamic Republic’s decision to promote and expand ties, Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, too, is determined to activate parliamentary diplomacy,” he said.
Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has said on several occasions that his administration attaches importance to the expansion of ties with different countries, particularly with neighboring states.
Earlier this year, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also said that a central plank of the Islamic Republic’s foreign policy is to forge closer cooperation with the Persian Gulf littoral states.
“Iran’s ties with the Persian Gulf coastal countries will get better day by day, and we will try to have these relations upgraded to the highest level,” Zarif said.
