Zarif holds talks with EU leaders in Brussels
(KUNA) -- Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is in Brussels Monday for talks on Iranآ’s nuclear programme and bilateral EU-Iran ties with EU leaders.
He began a meeting with the President of the European Council, Herman Van Romuy, today morning and will later hold separate talks with EU High Representative Catherine Ashton and the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz. Zarif is also expected to meet with Belgian foreign minister Didier Reynders today evening.
EU sources told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that Ashton invited Zarif to discuss the progress of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the G5+1 (China, France, Russia, UK, US plus Germany).
Ashton chairs the meeting on behalf of the G5+1.
The next round of talks on Iranآ’s nuclear issue is to be held in New York at the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, said the sources.
