Iran to boost electricity exports to regional countries
Iran plans to boost electricity exports to the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and other regional countries, according to Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Houshang Falahatian.
A 400 kilovolt (KV) power transmission line to Azerbaijan is being established, which is more than 90 percent complete, Falahatian said last week.
Also, the construction of a new transmission line to Armenia is on the agenda, he added.
And Iran plans to construct a subsea power transmission line in the Persian Gulf, with the goal of exporting electricity to the UAE, Falahatian stated.
Iran currently exports electricity to Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan (including the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic), Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq.
The Islamic Republic exported 3,214 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity to neighboring countries in spring 2014, which corresponds to the first quarter of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-June 21)
Iran’s power generation capacity currently stands at 68.38 gigawatts. The capacity has grown by 7 percent annually over the past 10 years.
